Students Shine in UMSL STARS Program

This summer, two Westminster Christian Academy students graduated from the 2018 Students and Teachers as Research Scientists (STARS) program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Jerry Liu and Lauren Bell spent their summer working alongside some of St. Louis’ top research scientists as part of the Students and Teachers as Research Scientists program.

Jerry’s apprenticeship with Dr. Elizabeth Kellogg at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center resulted in his publishing an award-winning research paper, “Identifying the genotype of auxin importer gene mutants of Setaria viridi.”

All papers were reviewed by a panel of judges from Monsanto, Confluence Life Science, SIU-Edwardsville, and UMSL. Each paper was evaluated for quality based on industry standards to determine the worthiness of formal publication.
