Spirit Week 2020 will mark the 31st year of a tradition that is arguably the highlight of the year for the Westminster community!

The purpose of Spirit Week is for class members to work together to build class pride through vigorous but friendly competition. The goal of each day’s activities is to increase class pride, involvement, and enthusiasm while remaining in line with the mission of Westminster—to honor Jesus Christ.

Spirit Week will be broadcast live for everyone watching at home. Tune in daily Monday, January 27–Friday, January 31 from 2–3 p.m.

Community Night (Thursday) performances will also be streamed beginning at 6:30 p.m., and Big Night (Friday) performances will be streamed following the varsity basketball game. Be sure to follow @AthleticsWCA for game updates.

Dress-Up Days

Monday – Class Color Day

Each student must wear something with the designated class color. Face painting alone does not count. Take time to be creative!

Tuesday – Country vs. Country Club
It’s a battle between the western and the preppy. Dress up in your favorite western outfit or like you’re headed to the country club. Time to break out those cowboy boots and polos.

Wednesday – Class Theme Day
Each class will dress up according to the theme that is chosen for their class. Each theme is different and unique to that class only. The class themes are as follows:

  • 7/8th Grade – Heroes
  • 9th Grade – Decades
  • 10th Grade – Safari
  • 11th Grade – Childhood
  • 12th Grade – Occupations

Thursday – Disney Day
Go back to your childhood and dress up as your favorite Disney character from any Disney movie or show. Anything from Hannah Montana to Mickey Mouse to Spiderman.

Friday – Blue and White Day

Wear as much blue and white as you can! Each student should have both blue and white in an obvious way on his or her clothing to be counted. Face painting alone does not count.

Dress-Up Guidelines

• Modesty guidelines still apply during Spirit Week.
• No negative costumes.
• No weapons—not even fake ones!
• No cross-dressing.
• No wheeled props or shoes.
• No masks.

Spirit Week Community Events

Community Night

Thursday, January 30, 6:30–8 p.m.

Community Night is the only chance for friends and family to see all classes’ Spirit Week performances in one exciting evening! It’s also a great opportunity for any family considering Westminster to meet members of our community. Throughout the evening, you will have the chance to enjoy a showcase of all the week’s performances, which include Film Project, Boys Poms, and Lip Sync. The hallway decorating competition will also be open to view just off the Grand Entry.

Two Live Performance Locations
On Community Night, students will perform once in the Arena and once in the Gymnasium. This will increase seating capacity and allow for a larger community audience as well as reduce the need to wait in line. All groups will perform in both locations in the same order. They will perform in one location and then in the second location about 5–10 minutes later.

Doors open at 6 p.m. No tickets are needed for this event.

Big Night

Friday, January 31

Big Night is the grand finale of Spirit Week! The night starts with boys’ and girls’ basketball games (freshman boys at 4:15 p.m., JV girls at 4:15 p.m., JV boys at 5:30 p.m., varsity girls at 5:30 p.m., and varsity boys at 7 p.m.), including special performances by the cheerleaders, dance team, and pep band. The hallway decorating competition will also be open to view just off the Grand Entry. The first- and second-place performances of Boys Poms, Lip Sync, and Film Project will begin at the conclusion of the varsity game, and the overall Spirit Week winner will be announced at the conclusion of the evening!

Have a Question?

  • Spirit Week FAQs

How do I find out more about Spirit Week 2020?
There is an official Spirit Week Handbook detailing everything including dress-up themes, rules, games, music/dance guidelines, etc. Be sure to check Instagram for updates and pictures of the preparations and fun!

Can I watch the performances in the Arena during the school day?
Yes – if your student is performing in a big event that day. With all of our students, faculty, and staff, we don’t have room for all parents and siblings. Visit livestream.com/westminster to watch all live broadcast Spirit Week events. If you would like to receive email notifications before a broadcast goes live, you will need to sign up for an account through Livestream. You may watch replays of Spirit Week events on our Livestream channel when the week is finished.

  • Taste of Westminster FAQs

    How do we purchase dinners?
You can purchase dinners above online or at the Bookstore (only cash or check accepted; you cannot use a Bookstore/Café account).

Do we need tickets or receipts for Taste of Westminster dinners?
No; you only need to purchase your dinners. As you arrive, we’ll check off names.

What if our family members arrive at separate times?
Not a problem! We keep track of how many dinners per family are served.

What if we want another student to use one of our meals?
If you can, please email Lisa Rupprecht to let her know. If not, your student must be present to tell us.

Can we buy dinners at the door?
No. Dinner reservations must be made by January 22 at 11:59 p.m. If you want to check after the dinners are completed, and we have leftover dinners, you can purchase a dinner at that time.
