Wildcats Take Second in State

The Wildcats baseball team competed in the MSHSAA Class 4 Final Four, taking on Savannah High School in the semifinal game. In the bottom of the third, in a scoreless game, senior Zach Gross got a two-out rally started with a double to right center. Senior Jimmy Obertop drove him in with a single followed by RBI hits from Nathaniel Sems (senior) and Adam Ebling (sophomore). This set the stage for a two-run home run by junior Brennan Orf. The Cats scored five runs that inning and cruised to a 10-0 win behind another great outing on the mound by sophomore Nick Moten.

Unfortunately, the tides turn on the Wildcats in the championship game against Borgia.  After two scoreless innings, a series of fielding miscues, and a timely hit, Borgia scored seven runs in the third inning. The Knights tacked on another run in the fifth and then exploded for five more in the top of the sixth. Westminster finally broke through against Borgia’s crafty pitcher in the bottom of the sixth to score one run, but it wasn’t enough to extend the game. The Cats fell 13-1.

Since 2006, Westminster baseball has been to eight final fours collecting four state championships (2011-2014), one runner-up (2019), two thirds (2007 and 2017), and one fourth (2006).
