Patrick Howard Receives Highest Rating at State Thespian Conference

Junior Patrick Howard was honored at the 2022 Missouri State Thespian Conference after receiving the highest rating a student can achieve for his submission of contrasting monologues.

Every year the International Thespian Society hosts State Conferences in all 50 states. In Missouri, over a thousand students gather annually to hear from Broadway performers, attend workshops, compete in various events, and view shows. This year Westminster’s Thespian Troupe 8719 attended the Missouri State Thespian Conference at Union Station in downtown St. Louis.

Patrick chose to compete in an event performing two contrasting monologues — one dramatic and one comedic. He rehearsed his pieces, filmed his own performance, and submitted them for adjudication. Competing against many other talented students within Missouri, Patrick received superior ratings from the judges in the first round, and was invited to perform again, in-person, in front of the conference attendees and a panel of judges. In the second round, he was once again awarded superior ratings from all of the judges.

Westminster’s upper school drama teacher, Jim Butz, works closely with Thespian Troupe 8719 and thinks highly of Patrick. “Patrick is a dynamic and charismatic performer. He excels at both drama and comedy and has great range for a young actor.”

On top of being a Thespian, Patrick has been performing on stage at Westminster creating memorable characters for years. You may have seen him in “The Little Mermaid,” “Spoon River Anthology,” “Guys and Dolls,” “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon!,” and you can catch him in the upcoming productions of “Tartuffe” on February 24–26 or “Cinderella” on April 21–23.
