MOVING DECIMAL POINT

Westminster Christian Academy product Jacob Turner, whose earned run average for the Marlins was 162.00 after he was shellacked by the Cardinals for six runs in 1/3 inning in his first spring start, blanked them for three innings Saturday. His new ERA is 16.20.
“Any time you’re off the tracks a little, you need an outing to get you going in the right direction,” said Turner.

Matheny, whose children have gone to Westminster, served as an adviser to Turner in the latter’s senior year in high school, outlining what Turner might expect to see as a professional.

“It helped me to make a smoother transition,” said Turner. 21. But, said Turner, “when we’re playing, I’m sure he wants every guy on his team to hit a home run off me and I want to strike every guy out.”

Matheny said, “We make no apologies for wanting to win every game, regardless of it’s my mother on the mound.”
