Opportunities for Leadership

Any leadership position is a ministry and service to others by being a role model of living and growing in the grace and wisdom of God. Students interested in leadership are required to fill out a leadership application. The names of all potential candidates for any leadership position at Westminster will be submitted to the faculty for evaluation. All leaders chosen are committed to a leadership contract and must participate in the Leadership Retreat.


Chapel Band    
Grade Level: 10-12
Sponsor: Matt DeJong

Selection: Chosen by Matt DeJong and a committee of adult faculty and current senior band members with application, interview, and audition

Requirements: Musical talent; ability to direct and lead entire community in worship; weekly practice, weekly chapel, and time for committee meetings; a teachable, cooperative spirit for a variety of worship styles

Chapel Leadership Team
Grade Level: 10-12
Sponsors: Luke Davis and Robert Murphy

Selection: Application, recommendation, and interview

Requirements: Plan overall Chapel theme; participate in leading Chapel; contact potential speakers; meet weekly with the Chapel Leadership Team; pray for faculty, staff, and students throughout the year

Peer Counselors (PCs)
Grade Level: 11-12
Sponsors: Craig Walseth and Annie Sullivan

Selection: Application, recommendation, and interview

Requirements: Participating juniors and seniors must enjoy working with 7th and 8th graders. They must also accept the responsibility of being a godly role model. They must be students who are known as honest, caring, morally upright, mature and responsible. Leadership ability, a cooperative spirit and, most of all, a servant’s heart are also highly valued in a peer counselor. PCs will be expected to attend a weekly meeting and to plan and execute weekly meetings with their groups. 

Fresh Connectors
Grade Level: 9
Sponsor: Jamie Kuhn

Selection: Application, recommendation, and interview

Requirements: Participating juniors and seniors must enjoy working with new freshman students and have a heart for inclusion. They must be godly role models and be known as honest, caring, morally upright, mature and responsible. Leadership ability, a cooperative spirit and, most of all, a servant’s heart are also highly valued in a fresh connector. Fresh connectors will be expected to attend a weekly meeting during Advisory. They will meet weekly with their new freshmen during the first quarter and once a month from then on out throughout the school year. They will attend New Student Orientation and the Freshman Retreat.

Service Leadership Team
Grade Level: 9-12
Sponsor: Kyla Lum

Selection:  Application, recommendation, and interview

Requirements: The Service Leadership Team seeks to intentionally look for ways to love and serve God’s people. Team members are encouraged to look outside themselves and examine areas within Westminster or the greater St. Louis community that presents a need. The team then will plan, organize, and execute service projects to fulfill those needs. Leaders will also focus on engaging other students to join in the serving process. Leaders must be committed to the following events: ITSOG, teacher appreciation, Wee Wildcats, 5K, Delmar Gardens Prom, and more.

Spirit Week Leadership Team
Grade Level: 9-12
Sponsor: Maggie Moore

Selection:  Application, recommendation, and interview

Requirements: The Spirit Week Committee meets weekly from August through February to plan Spirit Week in a way that builds class pride through vigorous but friendly competition against other classes. Each day’s activities increase class pride, involvement, and enthusiasm. All activities fit with the mission of Westminster – to honor Jesus Christ.

Cultural Ambassador
Grade Level: 9-12
Sponsor: Karen Bowman

Selection: Application, recommendation, and interview

Requirements: Cultural Ambassadors serve as authorized student representatives to our new international students and to our international guests visiting our school through our global partnerships. They must be committed to serving our new international students during New International Student Orientation the first two weeks of August, developing and maintaining a plan to assist the new international students in becoming a part of the larger Westminster student body throughout the year, and welcoming/assisting students visiting Westminster from our partner schools throughout the school year.

Student Ambassadors
Grade Level: 9-12
Sponsor: Peggy Johnson

Selection: Application, teacher recommendation, and interview. Current ambassador leadership team members aid in the selection process.

Requirements: An ambassador serves as an authorized student representative to adults and students who are seeking information about our school community. Participants should enjoy meeting new people and engaging in positive conversation about the Westminster program. Good communication skills and manners are highly valued in this leadership position. They must understand this is a service commitment to God first and secondly to the Westminster community. Ambassadors should have a general knowledge of all facets of the school including spiritual life, academics, and co-curricular activities. Ambassadors will attend meetings during Advisory to discuss and plan for events such as Open House, Orientation, IGNite, etc. They must commit to serve at selected school events that are, for the most part, not during school hours. Between hosting events, ambassadors will serve by writing notes of welcome to prospective students, expressing great esprit de corps for Westminster among the student body, and assist as needed.

Activities Leadership Team
Grade Level: 9-12
Sponsors: Susie Brown, Ashley Woodall, Olivia Pierson, Sarah DeVries, Kelly Gilbert, Dan Burke

Selection: Application, recommendation, and interview  

Requirements: Weekly meetings during Advisory, leading neighborhood meetings, planning/organizing/implementing any social or service activities for class and/or school community. All members must work as a team with advisors to present unified, positive, and acceptable plans to the class, and carry them out. Team members provide leadership for the student body through school-wide activities. They must be committed to planning and serving at Carnival, Christmas Banquet, Spirit Week, Junior/Senior Banquet, Senior Retreat, and more.

National Honors Society (NHS)
Grade Level: 10-12
Sponsors: Gina Butterfield and Sara Schwamb

Selection: Application, recommendation, interview

Requirements: Officers must have the ability to lead our National Honors Society in a variety of ways. Officers will help select and plan the NHS whole group service projects and help lead on service days. Officers perform administrative tasks such as creating memos, mailing letters, collecting member dues, and tracking service hours. NHS officers also organize and speak at the induction ceremony in the fall.

Club Leadership
Grade Level: 10-12
Sponsors: varies by club

Selection: Club officers are appointed by the club sponsor or elected by the club members.

Requirements: Officers must be members in good standing the year prior to becoming an officer. They work with the club sponsor to plan and carry out club activities. They must be able to function as a team leader for students and as a point of contact with faculty/parent leadership.

The Academic Hub supports and enhances the curricular and cocurricular programs to encourage students to become critical Christian thinkers.

The Hub offers a range of computer resources, as well as dynamic databases including ProQuest, SIRS Researcher, Oxford Reference Online, Opposing Viewpoints, CultureGrams, Student Resource Center, eLibrary, Historical Newspapers, and JSTOR. Other resources include periodicals, books, and non-print items.

ProQuest Platinum is an online database that includes nearly 2,300 magazines indexed, many magazines with full text articles, approximately 40 newspapers (national, international, and regional), and a religious collection of periodicals with about 50 additional magazines. (view on campus)

  • CultureGrams is one of the most trusted and widely used cultural reference and curriculum products in the education, government, and non-profit arenas. It is a global leader in collecting, organizing, and distributing value-added information to researchers, faculty, and students in more than 160 countries.
  • eLibrary enables students to find the answers they need from more than 2,000 full-text magazines, newspapers, books, and transcripts – plus thousands of maps, pictures, educator-approved websites from Homework Central®, and audio/video files.
  • New York Times Historical Newspapers provides access to articles from this newspaper from 1851 to the present. See what happened on a specific date, look at topics and timelines, or choose your own subjects for searching.
  • SIRS (Social Issues Resource Series) is a database covering many social issues. This service reprints articles from other sources and arranges them topically.

Oxford Reference Online brings together 100 language and subject dictionaries and reference works containing well over 60,000 pages into a single cross-searchable resource.

Opposing Viewpoints in Context draws on the acclaimed social issues series published by Greenhaven Press, as well as core reference content from other Gale and Macmillan Reference USA sources to provide a complete one-stop source for information on social issues. Access viewpoint articles, topic overviews, statistics, primary documents, links to websites, and full-text magazine and newspaper articles.

Student Resource Center: Junior is a fully integrated database containing thousands of curriculum-targeted primary documents, biographies, topical essays, background information, critical analyses, full-text coverage of more than 300 magazines, newspapers, more than 20,000 photographs and illustrations, and more than 8 hours of audio and video clips. Restricted to the Middle School.

Global Issues in Context offers international viewpoints on a broad spectrum of global issues, topics, and current events. Find hundreds of continuously updated issue and country portals that bring together a variety of specially selected, highly relevant sources for analysis of social, political, military, economic, environmental, health, and cultural issues. Each of these gateway pages includes an overview, unique “perspectives” articles written by local experts, reference, periodical, primary source and statistical information. Rich multimedia – including podcasts, video, and interactive graphs – enhance each portal.

JSTOR provides full-text articles to academic journals – some as old as 100 years.



Q: What are the hours of the Academic Hub?
A: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Thursday 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

Q: How long may I keep a checked-out book?
A: Books may be checked out for two weeks and can always be renewed unless someone else needs the title.

Q: How much does it cost to make copies on the Academic Hub copier?
A: For students, the cost is $.10/side.

After School Fuel is open daily from 3-4 p.m. in the Grand Entry.

Campus Cuisine is now offering highly nutritional snacks from its new After School Fuel menu.

A unique aspect to the After School Fuel initiative was the student involvement in branding and promoting the new school snack bar. Westminster marketing and graphic design classes collaborated as a creative team to assist Campus Cuisine in creating a concept, name, logo, and tag line for the project.

Menu items are categorized in the following areas:

  • Hydration (drinks)
  • Power Proteins (items that contain some form of protein)
  • Fast Energy (items that contain some natural sugars or carbohydrates for energy)
  • Just Fuel Me Up!  (items that are heartier, mini-meals like baked potato soup, turkey sandwiches, and buffalo chicken dip and cheesy pretzel poppers, to help fuel the students who need to stay after school for a longer period of time)


The Westminster Bookstore is an excellent resource for students throughout the year.

Items for sale, in addition to course-required books, include P.E. clothing, school supplies, and Westminster logo clothing and gifts. All Bookstore profits are used to operate the school and provide a world-class Christian education for our students.

Monday-Wednesday and Friday: 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Thursday: 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.


Volunteers help to operate the Bookstore. Our volunteers commit to a 2 ½-3-hour shift twice a month for the entire school year. If you are interested in becoming one of our volunteers, please contact Bookstore Manager Diane Miller.

Set Up a Bookstore/Cafe Account

  1. Access MySchoolAccount and select “create an account.”
  2. Enter the required personal information to create your parent account. Only one parent account is necessary and allowed for all your students.
  3. After entering your personal information, you will be prompted to select a school district. From the drop-down menu, select “Westminster Christian Academy – Town & Country.”
  4. A verification email will be sent to the email address you entered. You will then need the verification code to enter the website for the first time.
  5. After successfully logging in to the website with your user ID and password, you will need your student’s Veracross ID number to “attach” your student’s account. (Find this number by hovering your mouse over your student’s photo in Veracross and it will be displayed). New students can be added to your account at any time, and you can remove students who have graduated.
