Shane Benes

A junior shortstop, Benes helped the Wildcats capture their third straight state championship. With Westminster trailing Oak Grove 1-0 in the fourth inning of the Class 4 championship game, Bryce Bell led off with an infield single for the Wildcats and Benes followed with a two-run home run, his 11th of the season, to left field to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead and the win. The Metro League player of the year, Benes finished the season as the area’s home run leader and was among the leaders in doubles (16), RBI (37), runs scored (46) and slugging percentage (.878).
