Imagine a Story Camp Leader

Camp Westminster is looking for a candidate with storytelling and writing skills and experience teaching elementary students to lead a camp for upper elementary students. Camp plans and curriculum are available from the previous camp leader. Job responsibilities include:

  • Prepare camp plans using curriculum provided, with the option to edit according to preference
  • Teach campers about writing, storytelling, and narrative elements
  • Coach and encourage campers through the writing process
  • Submit requests for supplies by mid-May
  • Supervise campers, ensure their safety, and follow the camp timeline
  • Lead counselors (or counselors-in-training) to facilitate camp and befriend campers
  • Incorporate age-appropriate activities (or conversations) that help campers build character and skills for life
  • Help campers make friends and get comfortable quickly; help them to feel part of the group
  • Anticipate problems before they happen (socially, behaviorally, and logistically)
  • Recognize the sick, sad, or self-conscious child without them saying anything—and take appropriate step

Compensation: $750

Description of Imagine a Story

Grades 3–6 (Boys and Girls)

Do you love stories? If you love hearing them or reading them, chances are you also enjoy writing them! In this new elementary level camp, beginner story-writing instruction will be provided. In innovative and hands-on ways, campers will learn the basics of what makes a story engaging. They will create characters and storylines that captivate their audience. The week will conclude with a finished story and reading celebration for parents, grandparents, and friends.
