The purpose of Spirit Week is for class members to work together to build class pride through vigorous but friendly competition. The goal of each day’s activities is to increase class pride, involvement, and enthusiasm while remaining in line with the mission of Westminster — to honor Jesus Christ.
Spirit Week will be broadcast live for everyone watching at home. Tune in daily from Monday, January 30 – Friday, February 3 from 2-3 p.m.
Community Night (Thursday) performances will also be streamed beginning at 6:30 p.m., and Big Night (Friday) performances will be streamed following the varsity basketball game.
Be sure to follow Athletic Director Lindsay Carlile on Twitter to get game updates.
Monday – Class Color Day
Wear your class’ designated color. Face painting alone does not count, so be creative! Class colors are: 12th Grade – Blue, 11th Grade – Pink, 10th Grade – Purple, 9th Grade – Red, 8th Grade – Gray, 7th Grade – Green
Tuesday – Olympics Day
Represent an Olympic sport or one of the competing countries! Be the competitor or the ultimate fan. (No spandex, swimwear, singlets, leotards, etc.)
Wednesday – Holidays Day
Keep the holiday spirit all year long and dress up as a favorite holiday from America or around the world. Ugly Christmas sweaters look great in February, too!
Thursday – Famous Group Day
Whether real or fictional, human or not, find the famous group that inspires you and your friends into creative outfits! The possibilities are endless: M&M’s, Charlie Brown and friends, 101 Dalmatians, and more.
Friday – Blue and White Day
Go Wildcats! Each student should be wearing both blue and white in an obvious way in order to be counted. Face painting alone does not count.
Friday, February 3
This is the Grand Finale of Spirit Week! The night starts with boys’ basketball games vs. Burroughs (freshman boys at 4:15 p.m., JV girls at 4:15 p.m., JV boys at 5:30 p.m., varsity girls at 5:30 p.m., and varsity boys at 7 p.m.), including special performances by the cheerleaders, dance team, and pep band. Art Boards will be on display in the Grand Entry. The first- and second-place performances of Boys Poms and Lip Sync will begin at the conclusion of the varsity game, and the overall Spirit Week winner will be announced at the conclusion of the evening!
How do I find out more about Spirit Week 2017?
There is an official Spirit Book detailing everything including dress up themes, rules, games, music/dance guidelines, etc. Be sure to check Facebook and Twitter for updates and pictures of the preparations and fun!
Can I watch the performances in the Arena during the school day?
Yes – if your student is performing in a big event that day. With more than 1,000 students plus faculty and staff, we don’t have room for all the parents and siblings. We will try to simulcast live as many of the activities as possible. DVDs of Spirit Week that cover all games and events will be available when the week is finished.
Due to limited interest and participation, the multi-grade Blue Man Stomp performance has been canceled this year.
NEW: Prop Guidelines for All Large Events
Any single prop or instrument item must be able to be carried by one person (not rolled) and fit through a single door frame. On Community Night, students will be carrying props very quickly from the Arena to the Old Gym.
NEW: A subtitle will be required for all Film Project submissions
Cost of Participation
Individual costume cost limits will be noted in the Spirit Book.
Please note that practices for large events may not begin until Monday, January 16.
Thursday, February 2, 6:30-8 p.m.
Community Night is the only chance for friends and family to see all classes’ Spirit Week performances in one exciting evening! It’s also a great opportunity for any family considering Westminster to meet members of our community. Throughout the evening, you will have the chance to enjoy a showcase of all the week’s performances, which include Film Project, Boys Poms, and Lip Sync. Each class’ art board will also be on display in the Grand Entry.
Two Live Performance Locations
On Community Night, students will perform once in the Arena and once in the Old Gym. This will increase seating capacity and allow for a larger community audience as well as reduce the need to wait in line. All groups will perform in both locations in the same order. They will perform in one location and then in the second location about 5-10 minutes later.
Doors open at 6 p.m. No tickets are needed for this event.
