9th Grade Summer Reading 2018

Expository Writing

Trouble by Gary D. Schmidt

Before reading (or early in the book), pick a theme from the following list.

  • Independence
  • Loss/Grief
  • Forgiveness
  • Prejudice
  • Empathy
  • Father/son relationships

While reading, students must annotate their books by finding and marking passages that display this theme. These annotations can be highlighted or underlined, or a student may choose to use brackets or stars next to key passages. These annotations will not only earn students a grade upon returning to school but they will also play a key role in our first paper assignment.

Please email Lauren Simpson if you have any questions.
