Football and Chess for Beginners
Mr. Berttucci has 16 years of football experience, both as a player and a coach. He played tight end for Wheaton College and has coached at East St. Louis High School as well as Westminster Christian Academy. Mr. Berttucci also directs Chess at Three for the St. Louis area, an organization aimed at teaching the game of chess to a younger generation through storytelling and engaging activities. In the classroom, he has had experience teaching Bible, Business, and Economics at Westminster. This is his third year at Camp Westminster. To campers who join him for Football camp, he hopes to instill a love and enjoyment for the game in campers, whether they are experienced or new to the field. To kids who come to Chess for Beginners, he hopes campers will develop a love for a new lifelong hobby. He hopes to see you in June!
Coach Burkey has 12 years of experience as a varsity golf coach, in addition to playing golf in high school and college. He’s excited to be returning for his third year at Camp Westminster. During the school year, he teaches upper school Bible and coaches the varsity boys golf team. He hopes campers will grow in their ability and enjoyment of the game of golf while at camp. He looks forward to seeing you on the green!
Stoked for Science
Mrs. Butterfield teaches upper school biology at Westminster Christian Academy and previously taught 8th grade science at WCA. She is in her fifth year as a camp instructor at Camp Westminster and is looking forward to a fun week meeting new campers and exploring God’s amazing creation. It is her hope that campers will learn new science skills and become even more passionate about science. What’s the best part of Stoked for Science? It’s definitely the opportunity to be hands-on in the lab, solving forensic crimes and extracting the fat from snack foods! She’s excited to meet you and enjoy the week together!
Coach Carlile serves as athletic director and varsity girls lacrosse head coach at Westminster. She was named 2014 Coach of the Year and is now in her seventh year of coaching at WCA. This is her fifth year of leading a camp at Camp Westminster, and she’s excited for girls to come away from camp having grown in their lacrosse skills and being more confident in their God-given abilities. She loves watching campers improve over the course of the week. She can’t wait to see you on the field!
Imagine a Story
This is Mrs. Corwin’s second year at Camp Westminster, and she’s excited to be back! At Westminster, she teaches 7th grade English. She has had a love for stories ever since she was a little girl. She hopes campers who join her for Imagine a Story will fall in love with story writing, too. She can’t wait to see campers’ imaginations and hopes they will have fun writing the best stories they can. Be ready to let your imagination soar at camp this summer!
Coach Cumbee has been leading camps at Camp Westminster for eight years and has been involved in volleyball for as long as she can remember. She’s a WCA alumna and played volleyball at the school all four years, continuing her career at the University of Tennessee. In college, she won two conference championships. Following graduation, she started coaching the varsity girls volleyball team at Westminster in 2005. She also currently directs Team Momentum volleyball club and coaches year round. It’s her goal that each camper develops a better understanding of the sport of volleyball. Most importantly, she wants the campers to have fun and be better players by the end of the week. She’s excited to see you on the court!
Club Wildcat and Wee Wildcats
Mr. DeJong has been co-leading Club Wildcat and Wee Wildcats camps for the past two years. At Westminster, he teaches upper school math classes, coaches track and field, and helps coordinate the student Chapel band. He’s looking forward to a fun month at Camp Westminster this year! He hopes campers that sign up for Club Wildcat or Wee Wildcats have a great time meeting new friends and playing new games and come away from camp knowing they are valued by their camp leaders and classmates.
Books and Cooks, Pinterest Play, Spa Days
Mrs. DeMare began teaching cooking classes for kids in 1995. She loves to make things from the pantry for both eating and doing other fun things like gardening, keeping chickens, and making natural products. She also loves to pin on Pinterest! This is her second year as an instructor at Camp Westminster. During the school year, she teaches at Central Christian School. Her hope for camp this summer is that campers will have fun exploring and learning with peers while developing a positive sense of self. She’s looking forward to exploring, enjoying activities with campers, making friends, and having a fun time. She can’t wait to create fun summer memories together!
Summer in France
Miss DeVries majored in French and Spanish in college and traveled abroad in France and Honduras. She spent a school year teaching English in Marseille, France, and she also has a master’s degree in French. At Westminster, she teaches middle and upper school French classes. This is her fifth year leading a camp at Camp Westminster. She hopes the week together will spark campers’ curiosity about French-speaking cultures and that they will have fun discovering a different culture and language. Summer in France is the next best thing to traveling abroad! She’s excited to join campers in eating French foods, singing songs, playing games, doing crafts, and learning useful French vocabulary. She’s looking forward to meeting you!
Art Studio Camp
Mrs. Dierking graduated college with a ceramics and secondary education degree. At Westminster, she has taught a variety of art classes, including Oil Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics I and II, Drawing, Intro to Art, Watercolor, and AP Art History. This is her fifth year leading a camp at Camp Westminster. She wants every camper who joins her for art to have a great time being creative while also learning something new. She hopes you’ll share in her favorite part of camp – getting to experiment with new art materials no matter how messy!
Art Exploration I and II
Mrs. Drake is in her fourth year teaching camps at Camp Westminster and her seventh year teaching elementary-aged children. She works as a second grade teacher at Central Christian School. She’s looking forward to a memorable week with campers, learning about different media and experiencing art in a fun and safe environment. Her favorite part about camp is seeing the campers try something new and even surprise themselves in their abilities. She also loves the art exhibit at the end of the week, where campers show off their creative projects. She can’t wait for an artistic week of exploring our creative side together!
Music Makers and Musical Theatre
Mrs. Eichelberger has directed over 30 musicals at Westminster and has many years of experience teaching children ages 2-18. At Westminster, she serves as the Fine Arts Director and teaches Middle School Choir and Middle School Performing Arts. She is in her sixth year leading camps at Camp Westminster. She loves teaching music camps because the students who attend always have a great love for making music and performing. Their enthusiasm is contagious! She hopes during their week together that campers will learn how to produce something bigger than themselves. She’s excited to meet new students and inspire them to be their best!
Spin, Splatter, Splat
Mrs. Frentzel has 14 years of experience teaching art camps for Eureka Art Council, 10 years of experience leading Art Summer Enrichment at the Rockwood schools, and 14 years as an elementary art teacher at St. Justin Martyr Catholic School. She hopes campers will see the creativity of God in our world and feel good about themselves and their work as they get creative. She’s excited to have fun experimenting and creating art in all sorts of ways with campers!
Improv I and II
Mrs. Gilbert has been involved with improv since college, performing with various groups and teaching improv to high schoolers, middle schoolers, and elementary students ever since. At Westminster, she is a member of the world languages department as a Spanish instructor. This is her eighth year as a camp leader at Camp Westminster, and she hopes that campers of Improv I and II have a blast playing games and learning new things. Her favorite part of her camps is the show at the end of each week! It’s a high-energy time when all campers are so excited to show off what they’ve learned all week.
Improv I, Improv II, and Musical Theatre
Andrew is a 2012 Westminster alumnus. He graduated in 2016 from Missouri State University with a B.F.A. in Acting and just completed a contract with Royal Caribbean International as a singer/dancer on the Brilliance of the Seas. In 2010, he taught a drama camp at Chesterfield Presbyterian Church. He loves teaching children and young adults. He hopes campers who enroll in one of the improv camps or Musical Theatre will begin to find a voice as a performer and gain the confidence to perform in front of others. He’s excited to see campers come away with a better understanding of themselves and an emboldened appreciation and passion for performance!
Coach Gray serves as head tennis coach at Westminster and also teaches private tennis lessons. During the school year, he teaches senior students in Worldviews class and directs Chapel services. This is his second year leading camps at Camp Westminster. Coach Gray is looking forward to seeing campers develop in their love for the game of tennis. He’s excited for a month of friendship, learning, and fun on the tennis courts at Camp Westminster!
Ozobots, Games Galore, and Creative Genius
This is Mrs. Hauser’s third year leading the Creative Genius camp and her first year teaching Ozobots and Games Galore. She serves as the Gifted Education Coordinator at Central Christian School. At Camp Westminster this summer, she’s excited to have a fully engaging time with campers. She hopes every camper who walks into her classroom feels the freedom to learn for fun, and it’s her desire that each camper walk away from camp with new skills, confidence, and positive memories. She looks forwarding to meeting you soon!
Coach Keller has been coaching cheer at Westminster the past year and cheered herself in high school and college. This is her first year at Camp Westminster. Cheer is something she has always enjoyed. She believes it is a fun and uplifting activity, and she’s really excited to share her passion for cheer with campers! She hopes campers will have a great time, make new friends, and create memories that will last a lifetime. She’s excited to learn all about cheer together and have a great time doing it this summer!
Reader’s Workshop: For the Love of Stories
Mr. Kerckhoff began leading this camp six years ago because he was passionate about the idea of kids taking a break each day in their active, outdoor, summer lifestyle to stop, drop, and read. He has taught English and geography at Westminster and is in his 19th year at the school. He hopes that through this camp, campers will learn to make reading a part of their lifestyle. He’s looking forward to discovering new books, making new friends, and having fun at camp!
Assistant to the Director of Camp Westminster
Mrs. Knerr has an educational background in human development and family studies and a master’s in counseling from Covenant Seminary in St. Louis. She’s a licensed professional counselor with a focus on working with children and families. This is her second year participating in Camp Westminster. She works as a Little Pelicans teacher and aftercare supervisor at Covenant Christian School. Her favorite part of camp is the people – the campers, counselors, staff, and entire Westminster community! She’s excited and grateful for another great summer at Camp Westminster!
Coach Lawrence has been around basketball her whole life! She played collegiately and has coached at various levels for nearly 10 years. This is her second year leading camp at Camp Westminster. She hopes campers who join her for basketball camp will have a great time learning the game while developing an even greater understanding of how special they are in the eyes of Jesus. She wants each camper to walk away from the week more confident and encouraged and having had a lot of fun while working hard and improving their game. She’s excited to see all the young ladies on the court this June!
Coach Legters has been leading soccer camps at Westminster since 1997. He played soccer at Covenant College and has received his USSF National D license and NSCAA Advanced National certification. He teaches upper school Spanish at Westminster and serves as varsity boys soccer head coach and varsity girls soccer assistant coach. He has 20 years of coaching experience at WCA. He is excited for campers to learn something new about soccer and improve their skill and understanding of the game — all while having fun doing it.
Grace has been dancing since she was four years old. She attended Westminster from 7th-12th grade and graduated in 2013. While at WCA, she was a member of the varsity dance team, serving as team captain during her junior and senior years. Grace also danced all four years of college. This is her second year at Camp Westminster. Her favorite part of camp is the final show at the end of the week! She is excited to share with campers a common passion and love for dance.
This is Coach McCann’s second year at Camp Westminster. During the 2016-17 school year, she served as assistant coach for Westminster’s girls JV and varsity basketball teams. She also has experience coaching varsity softball at Crescent City Christian School while living in New Orleans. She teaches P.E. and Kindergarten Aide at Covenant Christian School. Her goal is for each camper to feel encouraged to work hard and learn the discipline of their sport. She hopes all the girls on the court will have fun doing so and be able to take what they have learned and apply it in their future endeavors. She’s excited to meet you!
Mrs. Muehleisen has been knitting for 11 years and used to run her own Etsy shop called “Naptime Knittery.” She loves the craft and loves teaching a new generation a timeless skill. This is her fourth year as a Camp Westminster camp instructor. She hopes that through this camp, campers will learn that they are loved and known by the God of the universe who knit them together. Her favorite part of camp is seeing the excitement on a camper’s face when they “get it” and successfully knit multiple rows. She can’t wait to meet you!
Outdoor Adventure and Wrestling
Mr. Muehleisen has been leading summer camps for over 10 years. At Westminster, he coaches the varsity wrestling team, in addition to teaching middle school history. He’s also an avid outdoorsman and is looking forward to enjoying the start to summer with you! He hopes campers will have fun, experience growth, and acquire new skills while at camp. He’s excited for another great experience at Camp Westminster this June!
Pool Party and Girls Lacrosse
Miss Pautler has experience as a lifeguard, swim instructor, and as a high school and college lacrosse player. She has coached lacrosse at the middle school and high school levels. At Westminster, she teaches 7th grade math and 8th grade P.E. This is her fifth year at Camp Westminster. She’s excited to get to know new campers, learn new things together, and use the gifts God has given us – all while having a lot of fun!
Coach Petke has been a camp leader at Camp Westminster for five years. He has coached baseball at Westminster for five years and also has experience as a softball coach (serving as head softball coach at Westminster for the 2016 season). He currently teaches 9th grade history at WCA. His favorite part of the week at camp is watching campers improve in their game and glorify God through competition. He hopes to see you on the field!
Middle School Dance Camp
Miss Pierson coaches middle school dance at Westminster and also teaches visual arts, including ceramics class, Intro to Art, and digital photography. This is her second year at Camp Westminster. She hopes camp will help boost girls’ confidence through team bonding, learning different techniques, and mastering a fun dance routine. She can’t wait to meet you!
Mr. Powers is looking forward to leading his first camp at Camp Westminster this summer. He has coached middle school and high school Science Olympiad events for over five years, including Wright Stuff (airplanes), elastic-launched gliders, and bridge building. In 2017-18 at Westminster, he will transition from teaching physics to teaching civil engineering and architecture. For special services, he also teaches two classes in the gifted program and will add gifted geometry next school year. He hopes each camper will leave the week feeling like an accomplished engineer/scientist and wanting to explore the world around them more.
Coach Ribble has been coaching college basketball for over 20 years and has been involved in leading basketball camps for over 25 years. This is his first year teaching P.E. and serving as head coach for the varsity boys basketball team at Westminster. He’s looking forward to his first summer at Camp Westminster! The basketball camps are designed to improve skill level and enhance campers’ performance while also having fun. The focus will be on individual fundamental skill development and team play, in addition to scrimmaging and playing other fun games and contests throughout the week. He hopes you’re ready for a great week!
Coach Schmer played field hockey throughout middle school, high school, and college. She has been coaching field hockey in the St. Louis area for over 20 years and currently serves as the head field hockey coach at Westminster and also helps coach with the Gateway Field Hockey Club. This is Coach Schmer’s fourth year leading camp at Camp Westminster. She hopes new campers will enjoy learning how to play and returning campers and experienced players will continue to refine their skills and prepare to play in middle school. She’s excited for you to join her on the field and have a great time making friends and improving your skills each day!
Club Wildcat and Wee Wildcats
Mrs. Schwamb is excited for her first year at Camp Westminster! Previously, she spent three summers as a camp counselor and also several summers helping lead vacation Bible school music and the junior high youth groups at her church. Additionally, she coaches a boys cross country team and leads Girl Scouts. At Westminster, she teaches an 11th grade American literature course. She hopes that campers who attend Club Wildcat or Wee Wildcats will feel welcome, make friends, and enjoy being a kid in God’s kingdom.
Flag Football, Puppet Palooza, Let’s Have a Ball
Mr. Thompson loves the opportunity to facilitate his camps at Camp Westminster. This is his second year running Flag Football, Puppet Palooza, and Let’s Have a Ball. He has also served as a coach for youth supports and leads a puppet ministry at his church. Mr. Thompson is a school counselor in the Clayton school district and a club facilitator for after school sports. He enjoys watching campers have fun participating in the camp games. His favorite part is seeing the campers laugh, bond, and learn new ways to have fun together. He can’t wait to see you this summer!
Amazing Anatomy and Sun ‘n’ Science
Mrs. Thompson is excited to be in her second year at Camp Westminster! She has over 20 years of secondary education teaching experience, as well as experience leading youth groups at church. At Westminster, she teaches 8th grade science. She hopes campers will come excited to learn something new and have fun doing it at her camps this year! She looks forward to meeting you!
Club Wildcats and Wee Wildcats
Mrs. Zylstra has helped run the Club and Wee Wildcats camps for the past four years. Her passion for this camp stems from college summers working at a day camp. She loves to play, discover, and build relationships with young campers. She teachers in special services at Westminster and coaches volleyball. She hopes that campers will learn something new about themselves or the world by being a part of camp. There are so many great things to learn through play, and camp is a perfect place to do just that – Mrs. Zylstra can’t wait to meet you!
