The Weekly Rundown

2015-16 Season

5/18  The soccer team advanced to the District Final by winning a thrilling game defeating Villa Duchesne 3-2 (OT). Macy Catlett put the Cats on top 4 minutes into the game but the team had to come back after Villa scored the next 2 goals in the game. Kirsten Davis scored a header off a Natalie Bunton free kick to tie the game and in the 2nd OT, Kirsten Davis took a right-footed shot that the goalie saved and Davis sprinted to the rebound and shot with her left foot to end the game. They will play Visitation on Thursday in a rematch of last year’s district championship game so make plans to come and support the team.

5/11  The Var soccer team traveled to Whitfield and came back with a resounding 8-1 win. Leading the attack was Kirsten Davis with 2 goals and 1 assist and Syd the “beast” Walker with 2 goals and 1 assist as well. Also making an impact were Natalie Bunton with 1 goal and 1 assist, and Macy Catlett, Alaina Randazzo, and Sarah Shoemaker with one goal each. 2 assists were provided by Molly Anderson and one by Callie MacDonald.

5/10   The VAR team avenged last year’s loss to Kirkwood by defeating the pioneers 2-1 on Senior Night. Kirsten Davis took a Sarah Shoemaker pass to score the first goal and Sidney Walker was in the right spot as the defenders tried to clear the ball only to hit her in the gut and rebound for a goal. The team wishes to thank the following seniors for their contributions: Missy Grasse, Sarah Ragsdale, Taylor Dorsey, Macy Catlett, Hailee Klein, Liz Harding, and Alaina Randazzo.
The Freshman/C Girls Soccer Team won against Bayless High School 7-0. Caroline Davis scored once and was assisted by Rachel Arndt, Brie Adams scored once and was assisted by Morgan Sickels. Lexie Kratky scored twice (one assist by Kalei Layton and the other by Brie Adams), Kalei Layton scored once on an assist by Allison Eichenlaub, Hannah Rupprecht scored once and was assisted by Ashley Mollenhoff, and Morgan Sickels scored once from a blocked goal kick while Stella Skorobogach had a shutout in goal. Lily Coln, Emma Kaiping, Nicole Xie, Lauren Lucas, Morgan Sickels, and Rachel Arndt held off Bayless’ offensive line in the back. Ashley Mollenhoff, Allison Eichenlaub, Bri Harris, and Olivia Strange helped maintain possession in the middle of the field. Great way to end the season ladies!

5/9   The VAR team got back on the winning track in thrilling fashion on Friday beating Rosati-Kain with 30 seconds left in the game. Kirstin Davis scored the 1st goal off a Haillee Klein assist. When
Rosati-Kain tied it with 3 minutes left in the game everyone thought it would be going to overtime until Alaina Randazzo sent a ball up front that Kirsten Davis poked under the keeper to give them the win. Come out today for our last home game of the season versus Kirkwood at 4:15 p.m.

4/26   The Varsity team lost in OT to the # 1 ranked team for large schools Rockwood Summit. Macy Catlett followed a rebound from a Mollie Ottsen shot to tie it 1-1 and when the game was winding down, and Kirsten Davis headed the ball in from a Natalie Bunton cross with 4 seconds left to force the OT. The team put up a valiant effort but fell short in the opening round of the Summit tournament. Next up is today vs. Francis Howell at 3:45 p.m at Rockwood Summit.

4/25  Victory for C Team!  Win over Cor Jesu 2-1. Goals: Caroline Davis and Kalei Layton.  Fantastic Goalkeeping by Stella Skorobogach!!   A great game by all the girls! 

4/20  The varsity soccer team defeated Lutheran South Lancers 10-0. Kirsten Davis led the attack with 4 goals and 2 assists, with help from Sydney Walker with 1 goal and 1 assist, Sarah Shoemaker with 1 goal and 1 assist, Mollie Ottsen with 1 goal and 1 assist and with one goal each Macy Catlett, Grace Gevers and Liz Harding. Hailee Klein contributed 2 assists and Natalie Bunton and Molly Andersen each had 1 assist.

JV  girls soccer won 6-0 Friday night against MICDS! Caroline Davis had a hat trick with Rachel Byars having a hat trick in assists! Olivia Strange scored 2 goals, Katie Meyer scored 1 and Rachel Ardnt had an assist. Defenders Ashley Peterman, Abby Nall, Amanda Berry, Sarah Melegrano and keeper Lexi Berra played their usual strong D to keep MICDS off the board! Another great team win!

4/13   The soccer team had to come from behind to beat Villa Duchesne 4-2. After giving up the 1st goal, Sydney Walker scored 3 goals –2 from the PK spot– to give the Cats the lead. Sarah Shoemaker put pressure on the Villa defense that lead to an own goal and a much needed insurance goal. Next home game is against Ladue on Thursday 4/14. Come on out and see the team in action at 4:15 p.m.

4/8  The varsity soccer team played their first conference game of the year and beat Lutheran North 10-0.  Kirsten Davis set a new single game scoring record at WCA with 7 goals in a game.  Sydney Walker had 2 goals and one assist and Sarah Ragsdale celebrated her birthday with a goal and an assist.  Kirsten had lots of help in this game receiving assists from Grace Gevers, Callie MacDonald, Natalie Bunton, Paige Stanfill, Sarah Shoemaker, and Macy Catlett.  Come out today 4/8 for their 2nd conference game of the year as they take on the Bombers of John Burroughs at 4:15.

4/7  The varsity soccer team came from behind to beat Parkway West 2-1. Kirsten Davis scored one goal with her right foot to tie the game and 3 minutes later scored with her left foot for the go-ahead goal. Mollie Ottsen had an assist in the game. Kudos to goalie Taylor French who had a couple of saves to keep the team in the game and to the defensive unit of Missy Grasse, Natalie Bunton, Sydney Walker and Paige Stanfill who shut down the Longhorn’s reaction. Come out today  4/7 for a home game vs Lutheran North at 4:15 p.m.

4/4  The JV girls soccer team won convincingly, 4-0 vs Parkway Central on Friday. It was a total team effort with every player contributing to this hard fought win! Please come out on Wednesday  4/6 to support their home opener!! Go Lady Cats!!

 5/15  The girls’ Varsity soccer team ended the regular season with a 16-3 record after beating Principia 5-0 on Senior Night.  Senior Charisse Williams scored two goals, Sydney Walker, Kyrstin Pritchett and Kirsten Davis each had one goal.  Senior Courtney Beat had three assists.  Come on out on Tuesday 5/19 as they host Villa Duchesne here in the District Semifinal at 5:30 p.m.

5/12    The girls’ Varsity soccer team got back on the winning track after a tough loss on Monday.  Kirsten Davis led the scoring with two goals as the team beat Whitfield 4-0.  Charisse Williams and Sarah Ragsdale also scored goals.  Come on out on Thursday as the team honors its seniors in the last home game of the season.

  5/11  The Varsity soccer team will be playing at Kirkwood tonight  5/11 at 6:00 p.m. in Kirkwood’s Annual Kick for Cancer game.  This year the Kirkwood team has chosen to honor Coach Smith’s wife, Hella Smith, with the game and as part of the events there will be a raffle to win Cardinals tickets and other cool prizes.  So wear your Hella Strong t-shirt to the game and come support her and the soccer team in this one of a kind game!

5/4  Kirsten Davis broke the school’s all-time scoring record of 75 goals with her hat trick in Friday’s game as the team defeated Clayton 5-0.  Courtney Beat and Kyrstin Pritchett rounded out the scoring.  Come out today 5/4 as the team battles Webster Groves at home at 4:15 p.m.

5/1    The girls’ Varsity soccer team is now 13-0 for the season after defeating Parkway-West 4-0. Charisse Williams began the scoring, and was followed by a Kyrstin Pritchett 35 yard bomb to make it 2-0.  Kirsten Davis put it out of reach with two goals.  Our next home game is today 5/1 at 4:15 p.m. against Clayton.

4/29     The girls’ Varsity soccer team is one game closer to winning the league title after avenging last year’s loss to MICDS with a 6-1 victory.  Charisse Williams led the attack with three goals and one assist, Kirsten Davis with two goals and two assists and Courtney Beat with one goal.  Missy Grasse and Sydney Walker each contributed an assist.  Our next home game is Thursday  4/30 at 4:30 against Parkway-West.
The amazing JV girls soccer team won another game yesterday, 4/28, beating MICDS 9 – 1. Hallie Kaiping started off the scoring with her usual aggressive yet smooth style. Katie Myers snuck up through the middle of the field to notch the second. The quick and diligent Sidney Keane scored the next two, while the fast and smooth Sophia Thomas added three more beautiful goals. Isabella Ortiz rounded out the scoring frenzy by shooting and scoring two more quick goals for the resounding win. With a record of 9 wins, 1 loss ( to soccer powerhouse Cor Jesu ), 2 ties and 48 goals scored with only 4 goals scored against, you can see why we call this hardworking group of ladies, amazing. Way to go Lady Cats!!

4/22  The girls’ Varsity soccer team was firing on all cylinders as they beat Lutheran-South 10-0.  Kirsten Davis scored five goals, Sydney Walker scored three goals, and Charisse Williams and Lucy Kehr scored one goal each.  Our next home game is Tuesday 4/28 when they try to avenge last year’s loss to MICDS.

4/17  The girls’ Varsity soccer team got some competition from the Ladue Rams, but it was not enough as the Wildcats beat them 3-1.  Sydney Walker opened the scoring, Kirsten Davis made it 2-0, and Charisse Williams added the insurance goal.  Our next home game is Tuesday, April 21.  Make plans to see your undefeated team play Lutheran-South. Our JV team beat St. Dominic 2-0.

4/15  The girls’ Varsity soccer team is still undefeated as they beat Villa Duchesne 5-0 on 4/14.  The offense was led by Kirsten Davis with four goals and Sydney Walker with a goal. Charisse Williams contributed three assists in the win.  Next up is Ladue on Thursday  4/16 at Ladue’s field a/k/a The Old WCA Campus.  Come out and watch some good soccer.

4/13   The girls’ Varsity soccer team took down the John Burroughs Bombers 5-0 on Friday as the three forwards took care of all the offense.  Kirsten Davis scored three goals, and seniors Charisse Williams and Courtney Beat each added one goal.  Come out Tuesday 4/14 when they play a home game against district rival Villa Duchesne here at WCA at 4:15 p.m.

 4/7   The girls’ Varsity soccer team was an offensive juggernaut this weekend notching wins over Waterford (7-0) on Friday, Washington (6-0) on Saturday and Parkway North (9-0) on Monday.  The offense was led by Kirsten Davis with 11 goals for the three games, Sydney Walker five goals, Charisse Williams three goals and with one goal each, Sarah Ragsdale, Macy Catlett and Natalie Bunton.  Goalie Taylor French recorded all three shutouts.  Next home game is tomorrow 4/8, when they take on Parkway West at 4:15 p.m. here at WCA.

4/2  The girls’ Varsity soccer team is now 4-0 after defeating Notre Dame 4-1.  Kirsten Davis scored two goals, Charisse Williams had one and defender Missy Grasse hit another 25-yard shot to score.

4/1  Varsity soccer team defeated Lutheran North 9-0.  The attack was led by Kirsten Davis with a hat trick, and with one goal: Missy Grasse, Molly Ottsen, Charisse Williams, Sarah Ragsdale, Sydney Walker and Courtney Beat.

3/30 The soccer team defeated Rosati-Kain with a 5-1 score.  Kirsten Davis led the attack with a hat trick, Lucy Kehr scored on a left footed shot and Missy Grasse added the last goal in the 2nd half.  Next home game is Wed.  4/1 so come out and watch the team in action.

3/27 The girls’ Varsity soccer team started the season with a 5-1 win over district rival Parkway-Central.  The attack was led by Kirsten Davis with two goals, Charisse Williams with one goal and Courtney Beat with one goal.  The team put pressure on the Parkway-Central Colts and caused an own goal as well.  First home game is today 3/27 at 4:00 p.m. when they take on Rosati-Kain.

5/15   In a rain-soaked game, the girls’ Varsity soccer team beat Christian High 6-0.  Kirsten Davis led with four goals and Courtney Beat and Alaina Randazzo each scored a goal.  Goalie Taylor French earned her 10th shutout of the season.  Come on out Tuesday (5/20) night as they play Parkway West at Parkway West at 7:30 p.m. in the District Semifinals.

5/14   The JV soccer team won their final game of the season yesterday 5/13 ~  3-1, versus Cor Jesu. Julie Griesideck scored 2 and Maddie Mercer 1. Lucy Kerr came off of the injured reserved list for this final game and helped to secure this win with great play in goal. This amazing group of talented players finished the season with a record of 49 goals scored and only 5 goals scored against, with a different field player in goal, every game, but two!! 13 – 2 – 1  is the final win/loss/tie stat. Please join in and help congratulate each and every one of these players on a fantastic season!!

The girls’ Varsity soccer team got back on the winning track Monday 5/12 by defeating Lutheran South 3-0 thanks to a hat trick by Kirsten Davis.  Yesterday 5/13, the soccer team beat Whitfield 6-0 thanks to a hat trick by Kirsten, two goals by Missy Grasse and one goal by Courtney Beat.  The team set some new records as Missy Grasse scored the fastest goal (12 seconds into the game) and Kirsten Davis has broken the 30 goal mark in a single season.  Come on out today 5/14 to watch Missy and Kirsten and the rest of the team as they honor the Seniors and play Christian High in the last home game of the year.

5/13     Congrats to the JV girls soccer team on their 4-0 win against Lutheran South yesterday. Julie Giresedieck had a hat trick with each goal assisted by Lacey Rapp.  Sarah Ragsdale had a great goal from the center of the field.  Brooke Lemp and Maddie Mercer led the team with solid defense, while in goal.  The team came through even though they had no subs and played almost half the game down a player due to injuries. Last game of the season is this afternoon 5/13 at 4:15, home, versus large school Cor Jesu. Come out and help celebrate a fantastic season!

5/6  For the second year in a row, Lacy Rapp scored the game winning goal off of a beautifully crossed ball by Callie MacDonald, for the jv girls soccer team. Playing large school Webster Groves yesterday afternoon 5/5, this win was made possible by the continued strong play of every member of this team. Outstanding job in goal by Erica Brunk and Maddie Mercer puts another shut out into the record book with this 1 -0 win. Great job girls!!

5/1  The JV girls soccer team had another great win last night vs Ladue. Brooke Lemp started the goal scoring with a nice header. Hallie Kaiping and Callie MacDonald added two more with some amazing shots! Sydney Keane was great in goal and along with the amazing defensive line play of Sarah Ragsdale, Paige Stanfill, Erica Brunk and Makenzie Wienberg, the team secured another shut out with this 3-0 win. Great job girls!

The girls’ Varsity soccer team defeated Ladue, the #10 ranked large school, in PK’s yesterday.  Kirsten Davis scored the lone goal in regulation and then in PK’s, Kirsten, Sydney Walker, Courtney Beat, and Natalie Bunton buried their shots to outlast Ladue.

4/30  The JV girls soccer team keeps on finding the back of the net with authority! They won 9 -0 vs Principia , 1-0 vs Villa and 6-0 vs MICDS, during their last three contests. This puts the team at 9-1-1 with 37 goals scored and only 2 against! Total team effort makes these wins possible and very fun to watch! Keep up the great work ladies!!

4/24  A new record was established when the girls’ Varsity soccer team defeated Principia 6-3 on 4/23.  Kirsten Davis scored a double hat trick, you heard right, six goals to give the Cats their 10th win of the year.  Sydney Walker, Courtney Beat and Natalie Bunton had assists in the game.  Next up is district rival Villa Duchesne on Friday 4/25  at 4:00 p.m. at Villa.

The girls’ Varsity soccer team capped off a great week winning the Hillsboro Tournament by outscoring their opponents 25-1.  After a disappointing tie in their third game, the team came out fired up for the final and pounced on host school Hillsboro for an 8-0 win.  Kirsten Davis led the attack with a season high four goals, followed by two goals from Tierra Reese, and Courtney Beat and Sydney Walker each scored a goal.

4/17  The girls’ Varsity soccer team defeated Fredericktown 8-0 down in Hillsboro last night.  Kirsten Davis led with three goals, and Missy Grasse, Natalie Bunton, Liz Harding, Sydney Walker and Tierra Reese each contributed one goal

4/16 The JV girls soccer team won last night against Whitfield to improve their record to 6-0-1 at the mid point of their season!! Callie MacDonald had two great goals and Hallie Kaiping with another! The girls won 3-0 to continue their shutout season with 23 goals scored and 0 against, with a different field player in goal every game. Nice job yesterday, Mackenzie Wieberg, in goal. We hope to continue, in all we do, to look to glorify you, Jesus, Our Savior.

4/15      The girls’ Varsity soccer team traveled to Hillsboro and came back with a convincing 6-0 win over Cape Central.  Courtney Beat led with a hat trick, Kirsten Davis had two goals, and Natalie Bunton converted a PK to close the game out.

4/14   The girls’ Varsity soccer team beat Burroughs 7-1 for their sixth win of the season.  Courtney Beat and Sydney Walker led the attack with two goals apiece, while Missy Grasse, Kirstin Davis and freshman Natalie Bunton with her first varsity goal extended the lead.  All this week the team will be competing at the Hillsboro Tournament.

The JV girls soccer team had a great win on Friday night against John Burroughs. Hallie Kaiping, Sarah Ragsdale, Callie MacDonald, Lucy Kehr, Sidney Keane, and Julie Griesedieck each had some amazing goals. The girls finished with a score of 10-0! What a way to end the week!

4/11   The girls’ Varsity soccer team is now 5-0 in the season after defeating St. Pius 1-0.  Macy Catlett (shortest girl on the field) scored the winning goal on a header off a Natalie Bunton corner.  Taylor French in goal secured the shutout with some fantastic saves.  The next home game is today Fri 4/11 at 4:15 p.m.

The JV girls soccer team came out with a win last night. Sidney Keane had a great goal in the first half to start the team off, followed by Lacey Rapp and Julie Griesedieck each with one goal in the second half. With Maddie Mercer in goal, the girls ended the game with a score of 3-0. Nice job girls!

4/8      The girls’ Varsity soccer team is now 4-0 after their last two home games.  Friday, the team overwhelmed Lutheran North 8-0.  Missy Grasse and Kirstin Davis each had a hat trick with Elizabeth Harding and Tierra Reese each adding one.  Monday the team battled hard and edged out Clayton 2-1.  Kirstin Davis scored two goals as Courtney Beat and Missy Grasse had the assists.  The next home game is Friday  4/11 at 4:15 p.m.

4/1 The girls’ Varsity soccer team is now 2-0 on the season after taking down Rosati-Kain   3-0.  Courtney Beat scored the first and third goals with two lethal right-footed shots, and freshman Sydney Walker scored her first varsity goal.  Come on out today  4/2 as they take on Kirkwood here at WCA at 4:15 p.m.

3/28  The Varsity girls’ soccer team began the year in fine fashion, crushing Notre Dame 4-0 in the home opener.  Junior Courtney Beat scored the first goal of the season and freshman Kirsten Davis added her first varsity hat trick to seal the deal.  Freshman goalie Taylor French earned her first shutout for the season.  The next home game is Tuesday 4/1 against Rosati Kain at 4:15 p.m.
