Dr. Mosbacker comes to us from Briarwood Christian School in Birmingham, Alabama, where he has served as superintendent of the school for over 10 years. He has 28 years of experience in Christian education beginning in 1989, when he founded Covenant Day School in Matthews, North Carolina, providing leadership in nearly all areas of the school’s operation and development. Following a 13 year tenure at Covenant Day School, Dr. Mosbacker served as headmaster at Presbyterian Christian School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. In 2006, he assumed leadership of Briarwood.

He holds a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a master’s from Covenant College. Dr. Mosbacker has completed 40 hours in systematic theology from Reformed Theological Seminary. He has served as a member of the Association of Christian Schools International, teaches as an adjunct professor in the graduate program’s School of Business Management at Covenant College, and has served as an educational consultant for over 20 years, assisting Christian schools nationally and internationally with strategic planning and school development.

Dr. Mosbacker is a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church. He and his wife Beverly have three daughters and two grandchildren.

“On behalf of the entire board, I want to say how pleased we are with the diligent and thorough work of the search committee over the last six months, and with their recommendation of Dr. Barrett Mosbacker as Westminster’s next head of school,” says President of the Board of Directors Mike Ottsen. “We are deeply impressed by Barrett’s passion for Christian education, desire to honor God in all things, his enthusiasm and work ethic, and the many ways that God has blessed the work of Barrett’s hands over the past 25 years. We are eager to see how God will use him as a blessing to Westminster.”

Dr. Mosbacker’s diverse and extensive experience speaks to his commitment to excellent Christian education and his desire to support teachers in the kingdom work of preparing students to engage the world for God’s glory.

Concerning his transition to Westminster, Dr. Mosbacker says, “My life verse is Proverbs 16:9, ‘The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.’ This has been profoundly true for all of my life and ministry. The Lord has done so again by calling me to serve Westminster Christian Academy. I am thrilled and humbled to be joining the Westminster community. Beverly and I look forward to forging wonderful Christian relationships with the students, staff, and parents at Westminster as we partner together to prepare our young men and women to serve Christ in college and career for His glory and the advancement of His kingdom.”

Westminster’s story chronicles one event, experience, and decision after another in which God has continually proved His faithfulness to this community. The appointment of Dr. Mosbacker as Westminster’s next head of school is another astounding example of this.

We are thrilled to be welcoming Dr. Mosbacker to our community, and we eagerly anticipate the beginning of his tenure as head of school at Westminster, effective June 1, 2017. We hope you will join us in prayer for our entire community as we look forward to all that God will do through Dr. Mosbacker’s leadership.
