College and Career Counseling

In the area of college/career counseling, the WCA Counseling Center has defined roles and expectations for the students, parents and WCA counselors. WCA counselors provide support, direction and encouragement to students and parents, primarily serving as a resource in answering questions and being a link to college. The following listing is a summary of roles and expectations for all parties and therefore is not all inclusive. If interested please contact the WCA Counseling Center for a full listing.

College Counselor

  • Prayer
  • Provide and teach students/parents about numerous resources
  • Contact with colleges
  • Maintain changing college/career changes and trends
  • Teach college planning skills to students
  • Christian College Fair
  • Help students discern the will of God
  • Parent workshops
  • Encourage responsible time management skills
  • WCA mails application after completed with appropriate forms and fees

Parent and Students

  • Prayer
  • Visit colleges
  • Read/Research material
  • Complete applications
  • Seek and research scholarships
  • First step in process - utilize CollegeView workstation in order to establish list of colleges
  • Attend college fairs
  • Meet with admission representatives
  • Contact colleges in order to obtain applications and scholarship forms

Ultimately, a parent should facilitate this process and serve as the 'secretary'. Help them to stay focused and organized.
